“All Night Parking” is an interlude by British singer-songwriter Adele, taken from her fourth studio album, 30. The song was written by Adele and includes a sample from the late jazz pianist Erroll Gardner.[1] “All Night Parking” serves as the eighth track on the album, and marks the first time an interlude appears on an Adele album; it is also the first time a featured artist appears on the standard edition of an Adele album. Its title was confirmed on November 1, 2021, when the album’s track listing was revealed online.[2]
Background and composition[]
“All Night Parking” was written by Adele and samples late jazz pianist Erroll Garner’s 1964 performance of “No More Shadows” for the BBC program Jazz 625.[3] Producer Joey Pecoraro incorporated the exact same sample into his 2017 song “Finding Parking.”
Lyrically, “All Night Parking” was inspired by a long-distance relationship that Adele had experienced shortly after her divorce from Simon Konecki, and the feeling of falling in love with someone new. “[It] was a great learning curve and nice to feel loved,” she told Rolling Stone, “but it was never going to work.”[4] In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Adele described “All Night Parking” as “cheeky and lighthearted.”[5]
Commercial performance[]
“All Night Parking” debuted at #24 on Spotify’s jazz chart, before catapulting to #1, where it stayed for nine consecutive weeks.[6] It eventually became the first and only track in the history of the chart to spend 30 weeks at #1.[7]
Live performances[]
In July 2024, Adele was heard rehearsing “All Night Parking” during a soundcheck for Adele in Munich, fueling speculation that it would be performed live for the first time during the 10-date residency.[8]
Covers[]
In June 2024, Kelly Clarkson covered “All Night Parking” during an episode of her self-titled daytime talk show.[9]
