“Can’t Let Go” is a song recorded by Adele, taken from her third studio album, 25. It appears as the first bonus track on the Target and Japanese deluxe editions of the album. The song was written by Adele and Linda Perry and produced by the latter.
Background and composition[]
Adele co-wrote “Can’t Let Go” with 4 Non Blondes frontwoman Linda Perry. The song has been compared to previous material released by Adele due to its primarily piano and vocal-based production.
According to Perry, “Can’t Let Go” was conceived within an hour after the titular line had been brought up in conversation; she formulated the song’s piano riff, while Adele produced the lyrics. Unsatisfied with attempts to further produce the song, Adele opted to release the demo version, although it was ultimately omitted from the standard edition of the album and released exclusively as a bonus track.[1]
In a reflective piece written for Rolling Stone, Perry expressed disappointment that “Can’t Let Go” was not included on the main album, comparing it to “being on the second stage at Coachella.”[1]
When asked about the song by a fan during a show in Berlin, Adele revealed that, although she loves “Can’t Let Go,” it makes her cry, and therefore, would likely never perform it live.[2]
