Darius Carlos Rucker (born May 13, 1966) is an American musician. He first gained fame as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the Grammy Award-winning rock band Hootie & the Blowfish, which he founded in 1986 at the University of South Carolina along with Mark Bryan, Jim "Soni" Sonefeld and Dean Felber. Rucker co-wrote the majority of the band's songs with the other three members.
After the group disbanded, Rucker pursued a career as a solo musician, which included an R&B album and an eventual move into country music, the latter of which he has been focusing on since 2008.
In 2010, he collaborated with Adele at the 2010 CMT Artists of the Year special, in which they sang country-pop group Lady Antebellum's song "Need You Now." The performance was widely publicized and was later nominated for a CMT Music Award. Their performance of the song was also featured on the deluxe edition of Adele's sophomore album, 21.
