Live at the Royal Albert Hall is a DVD/Blu-ray/CD release from English singer-songwriter Adele, which was released November 25, 2011 in Australia, November 28 in the United Kingdom and November 29 in the United States. The concert was recorded as part of the Adele Live tour at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

In 2013, the live performance of "Set Fire to the Rain" from Live at the Royal Albert Hall received a Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance.

Background

On the 26th of October 2011, it was announced Adele would be releasing her Royal Albert Hall concert from her Adele Live tour on both DVD and Blu-ray along with an accompanying CD. The release included 90 minutes of concert footage in addition to a behind-the-scenes video segment titled "You, Me, and Albert." The tracklist consists of songs taken from Adele's 19 and 21 as well as covers of both Bonnie Raitt’s "I Can't Make You Love Me" and The Steeldrivers' "If It Hadn’t Been for Love."

Music videos

There were two official videos from the DVD released by Adele—"Set Fire to the Rain" and "Turning Tables." These were both used for official videos for the singles because she was unable to film music videos at the time due to her recovery from her vocal surgery.

Reception

Live at the Royal Albert Hall was well-received by music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 76, based on 5 reviews, which indicates "generally favorable reviews."

The Boston News labeled the release "Our DVD pick" and said, "the performances are routinely inspired. With the voice of an angel—and the potty mouth of a sailor—she’s a force throughout." In a very positive review, MTV News writes, "I actually had to remind myself not to clap at the conclusion of a couple songs... And in that regard, it is a tremendous success; you definitely get the full experience. Adele is luminous, compelling, funny and profane throughout, and like I said, her voice is in tiptop shape."

However, Maria Schurr of PopMatters was more critical. She gave the DVD a 6/10 and wrote, "Yes, her voice is unbelievable and her everygirl personality is refreshing, but musically and artistically I find her a bit dull."

AllMusic gave the album a positive review and stated that the biggest highlights from the album were the live performances of "Hometown Glory," "Don't You Remember," and "Chasing Pavements." Her performance of "Someone Like You" also received acclaim from both fans and critics.

It has sold over 1 million copies in the US. In January 2013, it topped the Top Music Video chart for its 25th week at #1, thus making Live at the Royal Albert Hall the longest #1 running music video by a female artist. It currently holds 28 weeks at #1. The last time it was #1 on the charts was in May 2013.
