For the first time in months, someone connected to Adele’s upcoming third studio album, rumored to be titled 25, has spoken about the project. At the recent Cannes Lion creativity festival, Pharrell Williams confirmed that he had worked with Adele on new music. After referring to her as the main artist in the industry who is currently “getting it right,” he stated:
“ | I’ve seen her recently. She’s kinda like, ‘Okay, guys, I’m gonna open my diary for 20 minutes.’ So it’s like, okay, you have 20 minutes, or 32 minutes really. Then she gives it to you and closes it up and disappears, and she’s off with her beautiful boy — and that’s what it’s all about. She is a masterful writer. You listen to her albums and the intention is living and breathes. | ” |
It had previously been reported on several occasions that the two were collaborating together, with one source even going so far as to state that Adele’s sole reason for being in L.A. earlier this year was to work with Pharrell.
Williams, who is currently a judge on NBC’s The Voice alongside Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, has previously been known for his versatile musical background. The hitmaker has previously worked with the likes of Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Gwen Stefani, Daft Punk and Robin Thicke, and is perhaps best known for his song “Happy” from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. The track spent 10 weeks atop the Hot 100 and was in the running to succeed Adele’s "Skyfall" as the recipient of the Academy Award for Best Original Song at last year’s Oscars (although it lost out to Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go” from Frozen).
Needless to say, Pharrell is very experienced, and knowing Adele, she will surely bring out the best in him in their collaborations.
We can’t wait to hear what they have in store for us!
